MORE fines are issued in Barnsley for dog fouling than anywhere else, councillors were told this week.

John Dunne, from private enforcement agency Kingdom Security, attended a meeting of the North Area Council on Monday which covers the Darton East, Darton West, St Helen’s and Old Town wards.

He told councillors that when it comes to dishing out fines, Barnsley ranks number one across the 30 local councils for which it provides enforcement services.

Last year, more than 450 dog fouling fines were issued in Barnsley - an increase of more than 263 compared to the 187 fines issued in 2014 which saw the town place top in the UK out of 348 councils for dog fouling enforcement.

Fines for dog fouling are £50 and failure to pay can result in court action and fines of up to £1,000.
