Young rockers Sleeping With The Heartless will be flying the Barnsley flag at the final of a top music competition.

The five-piece, all aged 16, met at Shafton ALC. They have been gigging for the last few months and wowed judges in the wild card round of the Mid-Teenz Rock4Youth competition at Doncaster Dome.

Not only did they beat off stiff competition to reach the final but they were also nominated for a best original song award for their self-penned tune 'Crack a Smile'.

Hailing from Cudworth and Grimethorpe, the talented teens have been busy honing their craft.

They take influence from metal and punk music and have performed at Barnsley's Got Talent at The Bluebell in Dodworth as well as rocking out at the vintage car rally in Locke Park.

With Joe Fletcher on drums, Macauley Parton and Jordan Hugill on guitar, female singer Kim Bolton and Reece Morgan on bass, they are making big impressions.

Walking on stage transforms them, they say and for Reece, performing is a form escapism: "It takes your mind off everything when you're doing gigs," he said.

"But it's fun to entertain," Kim added.

The group needs to perform three original songs when they return for the final at Doncaster Dome on July 26 and they are busy preparing for the big day.

The band are also playing a gig at the YMCA in Barnsley today at 6pm.
