A HUGE sound and film collection exploring 100 years of Barnsley’s history will be opened up for the first time as part of a new lottery-funded project.

Barnsley Museums has been handed a £51,500 grant to create ‘The Joy of Sound and Vision’, uncovering more than 100 years of Barnsley’s memories.

The money from the Heritage Lottery Fund will be used to make the sound and film collections held by Barnsley Archives and Local Studies fully accessible for the first time.

These collections, many of which were donated as the Experience Barnsley Museum was being set up between 2010 and 2013, will be converted, catalogued, interpreted and shared with the public, community groups, schools and new audiences.
