BARNSLEY is hoping to pull in world class cyclists like Ed Clancy and Bradley Wiggins after being chosen to host the British Cycling National Circuit Race championships.

The championships, staged by British Cycling and Barnsley-based Team Cystic Fibrosis on Wednesday, July 29, is fiercely contested by the country's top professional riders.

Past winners include Barnsley-born Olympic gold medallist Ed Clancy, Olympic silver medallist Lizzie Armitstead, gold medallists Joanna Rowsell and Dani King as well as former road world champion Mark Cavendish.

Event organiser James Field, of Team Cystic Fibrosis, there could be upwards of 10,000 people who turn out for the race, which will start and end outside the town hall and will take in Church Street, Eastgate, Regent Street, Eldon Street and Market Hill.
