A BARNSLEY soldier killed 65 years ago during the Korean War will have his image added to a memorial at the United Nations Memorial Cemetery at Busan in South Korea after his photograph was found following an appeal in the Chronicle.

Gunner Joseph Micklethwaite was killed on June 17 1951.

His niece Hazel Sidlow - who was born two years after her uncle was killed - spotted the appeal in the paper as volunteers try and trace the photographs of more than 800 men buried at Busan - he was one of two from Barnsley who the researchers had no photographs of.

“The photographs will be attached to the man’s records, and, will also be placed on the walls of the Cemetery Hall of Remembrance for all time,” said Brian Hough, 83, of Cheshire, who contacted the Chronicle for help with the appeal.

“It’s great news that Hazel has got in touch, we are so grateful,” he said.
