WINNER of Britain’s Got Talent Cpl Richard Jones met a Barnsley veteran ahead of taking part in the Queen’s Birthday Parade, known as the Trooping the Colour, in London on Saturday.

Peter Ashman served in The Life Guards, the Senior Regiment of the British Army which together with The Blues And Royals forms the Household Cavalry Regiment and the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment.

“My late wife and I have been into Hyde Park Barracks early on ‘Trooping’ days on a number of occasions, but my daughter has never seen the build-up, so I treated her and my son-in-law on Saturday morning, and we were through the Guard Room for about 8.10am, so were able to witness everything coming together,” said Peter, 80, of Appleton Way, Worsbrough.
