Darfield's Robbie Barrett lost his British lightweight title to rising prospect Lewis Ritson at the Manchester Arena on Saturday night.

Barrett was put down four times by the Newcastle-upon-Tyne man before the towel came in from his corner in the seventh round.

Southpaw Barrett, in his first defence, started off well but was caught in the second by a right hand and took a count from referee Steve Gray.

He recovered in the subsequent rounds but Ritson always looked dangerous and put him down twice in the sixth and once in the seventh from a big body shot before cornerman Stefy Bull threw in the towel.

It is a blow for Barrett but he has vowed to get over the loss admitting he lost to the better man.

Meanwhile, Monk Bretton's Ben Wager won the Central Area lightweight title in front of a sold out crowd at the Metrodome on Friday night.

Wager blew away York's Danny Holmes inside of two rounds.

Holmes was down in the first from left hooks before referee John Latham waved off the contest late in the second following a heavy knockdown from a combination.

Dodworth's Ben Davies' debut at super-middleweight was a disappointing one as he was edged out 95-94 by York's Harry Matthews.

Davies decked Matthews with a big right hand in the last round but it was not enough for the win.

Ross Blackwell, from Wombwell, did get a points win on his ring return after six years out.

The welterweight outclassed Sheffield's Liam Wright and earned a 40-37 decision.

Blackwell caught the away man with some thunderous uppercuts and body shots but he got through the rounds and earned a share of one.

Stairfoot's Matthew 'Buster' Mallin slipped up against Manchester-based Yailton Neves.

Mallin forged ahead in the early rounds but let his lead slip and was on the end of a 58-57 reversal in the view of referee Mark Lyson.
