Joey Barton has denied assaulting Daniel Stendel at Oakwell on Saturday.

Barnsley head coach Stendel was left with facial injuries after an incident in the tunnel following his side's 4-2 win over Fleetwood Town, whose manager Barton was then spoken to by police. Officers investigating the incident arrested a man on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence and racially aggravated assault then released him on bail until next month.

A statement from Barton on Fleetwood's website read: "With regards to the alleged incident on Saturday following our game against Barnsley, I emphatically deny the allegations made. Given this matter has not been formally closed, it would be inappropriate for me to make any further comment."
