BEN Parkinson - Britain’s most badly injured soldier - has been named a patron of Barnsley-based charity Help 4 Homeless Veterans.

Founder of the charity Tom Wood said he was delighted to have the support of the Afghanistan veteran from Doncaster.

“Ben is going to be a patron, and his mum, Diane Dernie, is going to be a trustee,” said Tom, of Grange Road, Royston. “They are tremendous people and it’s great to have them on board.”

The charity has helped more than 200 veterans since its formation four years ago.
