VETERAN comedian and actor Bobby Knutt, star of ITV's Benidorm, has died aged 71.

Writer, creator and director of Benidorm Derren Litten announced the news on Twitter saying: "Very sad Benidorm news guys. The wonderful Bobby Knutt has passed away suddenly aged 71. Sending our Beni love to his family."

Fellow Barnsley actress Stephanie Dooley Day, wife of Darren Day, added: "So sad to hear the lovely Bobby Knutt has passed away. Treasured memories of our panto days! RIP Lovely man."

Bobby was born in Sheffield but lived in Elsecar for the last 15 years. He told the Chronocle last year that he would never leave. "I've got the best neighbours in the world and I would never ever leave, because I just love it here."

He famously played Albert Dingle in Emmerdale, but was more recently best known for his appearances in the hit comedy Benidorm.
