AVERAGE full-time weekly earnings in Barnsley have risen 6.5 per cent in 2017 after falling in 2016, figures from the Office for National Statistics Show.

Average weekly earnings in Barnsley now stand at £520.80, up from £488.70 last year. The rise is significantly greater than the rate earnings increased nationally, and regionally.

However earnings remain 5.7 per cent behind the national average weekly earnings of £552.30.

And the figures show there remains a significant gender pay gap in Barnsley. Male average full-time weekly earnings in Barnsley were £545.10, while for females it was £468 - meaning men earn 16.5 per cent more than women. Nationally that discrepancy is only 11.8 per cent.
