TEN men have signed up for a coast to coast bike ride in memory of Darfield girl Darcy Burke.

Darcy, of Beech Court, died aged six in April after a year-long battle with a brain tumour.

The popular little girl inspired many fundraisers during her life and this will continue with the men set to cycle from Whitehaven to Sunderland on September 6 and 7.

The group is led by Dave Surgey, 36, originally from Monk Bretton. A veteran long-distance cyclist, he decided this year's cause should be for the Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice after he was touched by Darcy's story.

He said: "Darcy's story really pulled on the heartstrings and it was so hard to get your head around."

The other riders are: Mark Levick, Stephen Clarke, Gary Hurditch, Damion Wright, Lee Gallagher, Paul Gallagher, Chris Davies, Dean Arey and Martin Holmes.
