Ice skating star Billy Wilson-French won a tremendous gold at the British Championships in Sheffield this week.

The 14-year-old from Royston finished first in the 'novice men' figure skating category with 40.58 points, while the second-placed competitor was well behind with 35.66.

He then teamed up with Lucy Hancock for the 'advanced novice couples' in which they came second, with 60.62 which put them just behind the winners with 60.89. Billy said: "I was so happy with the British Championships. I got to see friends from all over the world and even a fan from Japan called Chirio. It was good to see all my hard work and training pay off.

"I am really excited for next season because I am going up to a higher level with amazing competitors who will push me to the next level."
