Good afternoon and welcome to the Chronicle’s live text coverage of Barnsley’s match at Blackpool’s Bloomfield Road which is due to kick off at 3pm.
  • 13:52pm
Team news is expected to be announced at 2pm. The Reds may make changes at full-back as Zeki Fryers is back from illness while Jacob Brown replaced the out-of-form Dimitri Cavare at half-time in the 1-1 draw with Portsmouth a week ago.

  • 14:09pm
John O’Sullivan, who played eight games for the Reds in 2015, signed in the summer from Carlisle but has started just two league games.
  • 14:13pm
The Reds are currently on a four-match winless run in the league which has brought them two points. They are seventh, two points adrift of the play-off positions with a game in hand on all but one of the sides above them.
  • 14:18pm
Assistant coach Andreas Winkler told the Chronicle: “The players are disappointed to be out of the top six, but not in a way that they just look at the ground. They will keep their chin up and be more aggressive. We have had some tough sessions in training and everyone wants to go for a win. I think being out of the top six has given them more motivation.”
  • 14:22pm
The Reds have lost four of their last five away games in the league, while all five of their league defeats have come on their travels as they are unbeaten at Oakwell in 14 league games since March.
  • 14:24pm
Winkler said: “It is a concern. We have lost too many away games. We have to stick to our style away or at home and really improve our record in away games. The opponent teams know our style now and we lose it in some moments and we don’t go forward and attack.”
  • 14:27pm
He added: “Sometimes every player is not playing the same style. If you don’t work as a team in attack and defence then you get a problem. The opponent can feel that. In home games it is easier because of the atmosphere but we have to remember we played very well away this season and go back to that.”
  • 14:33pm
The Reds signed Brad Potts from Blackpool last year, after he made 98 appearances and scored 19 goals including in the League Two play-off final win over Exeter City which was his last match for the club. He was booed by the home fans on his first return to Bloomfield Road for Barnsley’s 3-1 Carabao Cup loss in August.
  • 14:34pm
Potts told the Chronicle: “I was a bit disappointed. My last game for them was in the play-off final and we got promoted, but it’s up to them if they want to boo me. It will only spur me on. I had a really enjoyable time there and I probably played my best football.”
  • 14:39pm
Potts recently lost his place in the side to Mike Bahre but was back in the team on Saturday for the 1-1 draw with Portsmouth. He said: “I probably needed a few games out. My performances weren’t what they were at the start of the season. The way the gaffer wants to play is very intense and, with myself driving forward a lot, it does take a lot out of me.”
  • 14:39pm
After manager Gary Bowyer quit his job following the first game of the season, his former assistant Terry McPhillips has taken Blackpool up to eighth in the league. They are a place and two points behind Barnsley who they can overtake with victory. Blackpool have one of the lowest average attendances in the division as many of their fans are boycotting in protest against their owners.
  • 14:43pm
Winkler said: “They are a very aggressive and strong physical team. There is a bit of pressure on us because it is in a run of very big games. Having more fans than them might give us a bit of an advantage.”
  • 14:46pm
Blackpool had lost just one of their last eight games in all competitions before being beaten 2-0 at Oxford United on Saturday. A full-strength side then won 3-2 at home to non-league Solihull Moors in an FA Cup replay on Tuesday, in extra-time after losing a 2-0 lead, to set up a third round meeting with Premier League giants Arsenal. Winkler said: “Blackpool might have lost some energy by playing in extra-time in midweek.”
  • 14:49pm
Only Portsmouth and Sunderland have a better League One defensive record than the Tangerines who have conceded 21 goals, the same as Barnsley.

  • 14:56pm
Blackpool have won just one of their last seven league games against the Reds, losing three and drawing three. Barnsley had a good record at Bloomfield Road, losing once and winning six of ten visits from 1991 to 2013, but have not won in their last four visits there with two draws and two defeats.
