MORE than 50 people were advised to see their doctor after having their blood pressure checked.

The Stroke Association and Rotary International are working together to raise awareness of high blood pressure, and Barnsley Rockley Rotary Club invited people to have a free blood pressure test last Saturday.

Of 148 participants, 53 were advised to have a follow-up with their doctor.

A representative of Barnsley Rockley Rotary Club said: “The general opinion of participants was that it was a great opportunity to have their blood pressure tested while out and about carrying out weekend chores. Special thanks to management and security staff at the Alhambra Centre for allowing us space and assisting us and huge thanks to the volunteer nurses, Angela Wheater, Angela Dyson and Katy Symon without whose generosity in sparing their time we could not have held the event. We’ll be back next year.”
