'MAN'S best friend' may sometimes be an exaggeration but David Robinson definitely has plenty of affection for his loyal dog Izzy.

The 13-year-old cross has twice saved her owner's life, prompting David to write the heart-warming story 'My Hero', which has just been published.

Diabetic David, 40, was first saved by Izzy in 2004 after collapsing on his bathroom floor before the dog again came to the rescue when he fell into a coma in 2012.

"My book tells the whole story of how she did it and how she played an even bigger part in my recovery," said David, of Melbourne Road, Stocksbridge.

Izzy's exploits led to her winning the Dogs Trust Honour's Award for Pet Hero in 2012 and she has now received further recognition thanks to David's book deal with Pegasus Publishers.
