Barnsley Woolley Miners captain Jason Booth believes his side – powered by Harpreet Singh who has five centuries in six matches – is capable of continuing their five-game winning run until the end of the season.

Indian Singh smashed 157 not out off 133 balls in a narrow home win over lowly Cleethorpes on Saturday, with more than a century coming in boundaries thanks to 21 fours and five sixes. The Shaw Laners' win meant they moved up to third in the league, 34 places behind leaders Wakefield Thornes and 24 off second-placed Sheffield Collegiate, with nine games remaining.

Booth said: "We want to win every game from now until the end of the season, which would win us a cup and put us in serious contention for the league. That will be very, very tough but I think we are capable of it and teams are going to have to play exceptionally well to beat us at the moment. The top two, Wakefield and Sheffield Collegiate, play each other this weekend so we can close the gap on one of them.

"It was just a few weeks ago that we were annoyed that we allowed Aston Hall (bottom club) to get some bonus points against us because we were still worried about being sucked into the relegation fight. But now we're flying and it's a great team to be part of."

Singh has 879 runs from 13 matches this season at an average of 80 after smashing 682 in his last six innings which have brought five tons and a first-ball duck. He is also the highest scorer in the league by 143 runs.

Booth said: "I have been saying since last season that he's the best I've ever played with. His innings this week was perfect, he increased the tempo then let loose after he got to 100. We're very lucky to have him and he's dragging everyone else's performance levels up as well."
