A CRITICALLY-ACCLAIMED boxing drama partly filmed in Barnsley is now in cinemas.

Journeyman, written by, directed by and starring Paddy Considine used the Metrodome as a shooting location for some of its pivotal boxing fight scenes last year.

Considine plays middleweight boxer Matty Burton who takes on one last fight before retirement, with devastating consequences.

A heavy blow in the ring leaves him with long-lasting effects and a lengthy battle to recovery alongside wife Emma, played by Jodie Whittaker.

The production saw the Metrodome filled with 350 extras and a boxing ring.

At the time of shooting, producer Diarmid Scrimshaw said both the venue and the people of Barnsley were great to work with, describing them as a ‘really friendly, professional and supportive’ bunch.

The film has garnered an 83 per cent positive ‘fresh’ rating on reviews aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, earning praise from some of the country’s top film critics.
