A SHOCKED mum was told her 15-month-old son was 'half an hour from death' when he was rushed to hospital.

Michaela Claydon, 20, said her son Coby was was rushed into Barnsley Hospital where he was diagnosed with meningococcal meningitis and septicaemia, an inflammation of the spinal cord and brain lining which causes blood poisoning.

Coby was transferred to Sheffield Children's Hospital, where he was placed into a medically induced coma, put onto a ventilator and prescribed eight different medicines to help him survive.

Michaela, from Wynmoor Crescent, said: "They did a brain scan and found damage to the front and back but they don't know the extent of it yet, it could be not too serious.

"He is out of the coma now and starting to sit up. He is tired and stressed out because he knows he can't do stuff he could before."
