A LITTLE boy who choked on a coin has returned to school and presented his teachers with flowers as a thank you for helping to save his life.

Little AJ Leach and his mother Natalie were at parents evening at Outwood Primary Academy Littleworth Grange when the ten pence coin ended up lodged in his throat.

Principal Gemma Kilner and vice principal Lynsey Hadfield both gave first aid while Natalie, 34, of Harold Avenue, Lundwood, was comforted by learning managers Jo Wilson and Emma Turton.

Natalie said AJ, five, had been messing with the coin and all of a sudden was struggling to breathe.

She said: “It was awful. He was just wrenching and his eyes went funny.

“The teachers were fantastic. They were smacking him on the back for a good couple of minutes and the paramedics said they had saved him until they got there.

“I was hysterical.”
