A LOCAL brass band has rallied to keep its sound alive after being threatened by falling numbers.

The 150-year-old Rockingham Brass Band, which is based at the Rockingham Centre, Hoyland Common, is looking to drive to success at the Yorkshire area competition tomorrow.

Jacky Wadsworth, band member, said: “This last six months have been quite traumatic and at one stage it looked as though it might fold but like phoenix from the ashes we are back and hopefully on form.”

The band has suffered as key players left for university. The band has an age range of seven to 70.
