A BRASS band has been forced out of its home village after 155 years following a row over their practice hut which resulted in the building being demolished by a developer.

The award-winning Old Silkstone Band had been involved in a long-running dispute over its rights to use the hut, which had been its home since a lease was signed with the former Silkstone Working Men's Club around 35 years ago.

Since then the club closed and the site has been redeveloped as a private home by Richard Richardson and he has now demolished the building, after informing the band via his solicitor, although a legal dispute over the band's lease had not been resolved.
