PLANS to market Barnsley as a location for filming will coincide with a move to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Brassed Off being filmed in the town.

Shot in and around Barnsley, the Bafta-nominated comedy drama follows the story of a colliery brass band conductor struggling to maintain the morale of his musicians when the future of the pit is thrown into doubt.

To mark two decades since its release in 1996, Barnsley Council is planning to launch a Brassed Off Grimethorpe trail, revisiting the community two decades on and looking at its resilience and strengths.

Locations used in the film will form the backbone of the project with a film trail of markers created as reference points for people to access online content.
