A YOUNG mum whose brave battle against cervical cancer proved an inspiration to many Barnsley people has died aged 32.

The family and friends of Alex Cole Swann, of Whitbourne Close, Smithies, launched an appeal to help pay for a revolutionary new treatment which is not available on the NHS and the people of Barnsley were quick to support it. Sadly it did not reverse the cancer and Alex died last Friday.

Her husband Nathan, 25, thanked the people of Barnsley for their generosity and paid tribute to the bravery and courage of his wife.

"This world lost a truly amazing and beautiful person both inside and out," he wrote on the Alex's Quest for Life Facebook page.

A funeral service will take place on the Tuesday June 9 at Ardsley Crematorium Chapel at 1.30pm followed by a private burial at Hunningley Lane Cemetery, Ardsley.
