HOT bagels are being served in a school playground to ensure that every child receives something to eat in the morning.

Joseph Locke Primary school, on Shaw Street has joined a national school breakfast programme which is being delivered by charities Family Action and Magic Breakfast.

The school has received funding to provide pupils at the school with a bagel, which began on Monday.

Judith Brock, the co-headteacher said: “As a school we noticed that children were coming to school and they had not had breakfast. We believe that no child should go hungry and this programme ensures that children are offered a nutritional breakfast.

“We have toasters in the school so the bagels are served warm and we will have two members of staff each morning going around the playground offering bagels to the children before school begins.”
