James Bree celebrated his professional contract with a superb goal but Barnsley under 18s' eight-match winning run ended with a 2-1 loss at Cardiff City on Saturday morning.

The 16-year-old – who signed until 2017 last week – fired in a 25-yard screamer to pull a goal back after the Welsh side went 2-0 up. Nana Yiadom hit the bar late on but the young Reds lost for the first time in 2014.

The under 18s are at home to Leeds United on Saturday from 11am. The under 21s visit Huddersfield on Monday hoping to end a winless run that stretches back to October. They went down 4-2 at Derby County on Monday. The goals came from Reuben Noble-Lazarus and Jordan Clark.
