Worsbrough Bridge manager Lee Morris has dipped into local football to help the club's bid to beat the drop.

Kieran Hirst's penalty was followed by an own goal before Joe Dungworth completed the scoring in their morale-boosting 3-0 win over AFC Bolsover on Saturday.

Hirst, from West Melton, and Mexborough's Dungworth have both developed in the Mexborough Sunday League and Morris feels they are good additions as his side look to climb their way out of trouble.

He said: "They have good qualities. My dad threw me into the Sunday League after I had been released from Rotherham United at 16 and it did me no harm. It shows you what it's all about.

"To be fair to Joe, he has done fantastic. I spotted him in the Sunday league in the first game of the season and he showed he had a lot of potential.

"I have known Kieran from him being about eight and he is a class above this level. It's all about giving people a chance. I know that there are some really good players in the Sunday league."

Morris felt his side pulled off the perfect display at Bolsover which was their first win in five. "Most people dubbed it a six pointer," he said.

"From the first minute our lads were top class and they looked very well drilled. They pulled off what we have been working in training on."

Bridge now face table-topping Knaresborough Town on Saturday.

"It's a free hit and that is what I have told the lads," said Morris.

"Everyone will have Knaresborough down to win but then we have six home games against the teams in and around us."

It remains unclear how many teams will get relegated under a planned restructure but up to six have been mooted. Bridge are currently 19th of 22.

Morris added: "I am asking every week what the situation is with relegation but it's up to the FA. All we can do is win as many games as we can and try and finish seven above bottom. "I don't want a relegation on my CV."
