Worsbrough Bridge manager Chris Hilton says his side still have an 'outside chance' of promotion from North East Counties Division One this season after they drew 0-0 on Tuesday night against Cleethorpes Town who had ten men for 85 minutes.
Visiting defender Chris Gordon picked up two yellow cards in the first five minutes but the east coast club hung on to earn a point which put them into the second of two promotion places ahead of Bridge's Barnsley rivals Shaw Lane Aquaforce who did not play this week.
Worsbrough are now 16 points behind the top two with 16 matches left and, although they do have games in hand on sides above them, they have not won any of their seven league matches since November 23.
Hilton said: "It is going to be difficult to finish in the top two now but we still have an outside chance. We still have Cleethorpes and Aquaforce to play and all the top teams have to play each other.
I strongly believe that once we get one win then we will pick up momentum and go on a run."
Bridge were handed a major opportunity on Tuesday evening when Cleethorpes' Gordon first scythed down Lee Garside with a tackle that could have landed him a straight red then took out Adam Podmore and was given a second yellow. Hilton said: "The red card swung the game in our favour but we went far too long in the first half and didn't move the ball well enough in the second half. "It's a game we should have won but it is point and a clean sheet against one of the top teams in the league."
The ten men almost took the lead on 40 minutes with a powerful volley from the edge of the area which Bridge goalkeeper Jared Oxley did well to stop.
Garside then fired over from just inside the area after a good team move. The same player had the chance to level in the second half when he met Martyn Scully's cross five yards out with the goal gaping but shot straight at the 'keeper.
Garside was then booked for punching the ball into the net before both he and Podmore had strong penalty shouts turned down. Podmore then fired over inside the box in injury time.
