Worsbrough Bridge have a third 'home stadium' of the season after agreeing to groundshare with Rotherham club Maltby Main until the end of the campaign.

Northern Counties East League officials have deemed that the Grimethorpe Sports Ground, where Bridge have been playing since October, is not up to the required standards. It is the latest twist in a terrible season for Bridge who left their home of 92 years, Park Road in Worsbrough, in September after a dispute with the association that runs the ground.

The club have had several games called off at both Worsbrough and Grimethorpe due to faulty floodlights and may not be clear of those problems as Maltby's match on Saturday was abandoned at half-time due to floodlight failure. The club's reserves, under 19s and women's team will all still be based at Grimethorpe with the hope that the first team will return there for next season after making the necessary improvements to the facilities.

"The club's future is in the balance," said chairman Wayne Radford, whose side are due to play their first game at Maltby against Hallam on Boxing Day.

"We are facing being thrown out of the league or relegated to the County Senior League. We need some large grants to get Grimethorpe up to the required standard but we are confident that will happen because it is such a serious situation.

"Maltby have been kind enough to let us groundshare and our plan is to do the work needed at Grimethorpe before the deadline of March 31 then make it our long-term home.

"The league told us that we could play at Grimethorpe for the rest of the season as a temporary measure but they have now gone back on that which is disappointing.  We think Grimethorpe is a better ground than some we have visited in the league this season. There's no logic to it.

"It's very disappointing to have to play outside Barnsley and it makes it very hard to build up a fanbase.  It's been a very tough season. Everyone is unsettled and asking what the future of the club is.  It all stems back to leaving Park Road but it's all been beyond our control.

"At Grimethorpe we need a new stand, covered seating, new dugouts, new showers, fencing around the whole ground and a ticket booth as well as some other things."

Worsbrough are currently 20th out of 22 in Division One with 14 points from their 19 games.
