Worsbrough Bridge are hoping to surpass last season’s league points tally, by winning tomorrow, with more than half of the campaign remaining.

They have 31 points, which is just two fewer than they picked up in all of last season – the third of three successive relegation battles. They are due to host lowly Skegness Town tomorrow.

Manager Lee Morris said: “We have already got more wins than last season and hopefully we can win on Saturday then we will have more points than last season.

“That will be an amazing achievement in November and it shows how far the club has come.“I am using it as a motivation, I want the players to beat everything the club did last year.”

Worsbrough are sixth – just five points behind the leaders – but no side has played as many games as their 18 so far. In previous seasons, there have been two automatic promotion places and four play-off spots to decide a third promoted team.

Morris said: “We have heard that there aren’t any play-offs this season. That’s disappointing because it means that, by December, most teams have nothing to play for. We just want to go under the radar but we believe in that dressing room that we are good enough to get in the top two. We are quietly confident and we know we can beat anyone on our day.

“We will just keep going until March then, if we are still up there, we will have a right go at getting promotion. We don’t pay our players so other clubs will try to take our best performers but they didn’t go in the summer when they could have done and I will be shocked if they go now.

“The lads would run through brick walls for the club and the team spirit and commitment are second to none. A lot of people around the club have put a lot of effort into this season and we are getting the rewards now.”

Morris has had to play in recent games due to an injury crisis. He said: “In the last four or five weeks, we have been down to the bare bones due to injuries. I have had to dust my boots off. I am looking forward to the other lads coming back because, after I play a game, I can’t walk for a week.”
