Barnsley set a club record for a 12th successive match without a home win after their former player Josh Brownhill netted a 90th-minute leveller in a 2-2 home draw with Bristol City.

The Reds were the better team throughout the match and led through Kieffer Moore and Brad Potts but failed to gain their first home victory since November 4.

The result moved Barnsley a point clear of the relegation zone but they could fall into it should Birmingham City win at home to Ipswich Town tomorrow.

Jose Morais made four changes to the side that lost 2-0 to Millwall before the international break. Goalkeeper Adam Davies came back into the side after missing the last game due to his partner giving birth. Nick Townsend is injured and was replaced by Jack Walton who has been recalled from his loan at Stalybridge. George Moncur, Zeki Fryers and Lloyd Isgrove replaced Mamadou Thiam, Dani Pinillos and Stevie Mallan who dropped out of the 18.

Barnsley thought their visitors should have been down to ten men after just five minutes when Moore went through on goal but was tripped by City captain Bailey Wright, who was given a yellow card with the home crowd and players baying for red.

The hosts still took the lead in the eighth minute when Moncur's corner from the left wing was headed in from close range by Moore after home goalkeeper Frank Fielding appeared to rush off his line.

Barnsley could have made it 2-0 as Isgrove headed a low Brad Potts cross wide then Oliver McBurnie won the ball deep in Bristol territory and played through Moore whose weak shot was easily saved by Fielding.

The Robins slowly got back into the match with Joe Bryan firing a low 20-yard shot wide then ex-Red Josh Brownhill brilliantly jinked past two players in the home box before Adam Jackson blocked his shot.

The visitors eventually levelled on 31 minutes when Senegal international Famara Diedhiou had plenty of space on the left side of the Reds box and picked his spot to find the top left corner with an excellent shot.

Barnsley responded well and, after Potts and Moncur both missed the target from the edge of the box, McBurnie headed straight at Fielding when he should have scored from six yards out after Moore had nodded an Andy Yiadom cross straight to him.

Moore then blazed over from 25 yards but Barnsley went into the half-time break knowing they had been the better team.

Potts should have put his side ahead three minutes into the second half when he slid in to meet an excellent right-wing Moncur cross just a few yards out but failed to make much contact and Fielding was able to dive to his right to stop the trickling effort on the line.

Moore then had two superb chances to grab a second as he first chested down a long ball to go one-on-one but was denied by a good Fielding stop then the same player headed a Moncur corner straight at the goalkeeper.

Morais brought on Adam Hammill – who had been left out of the last six matches – as well as Joe Williams with Moncur and Isgrove coming off.

Williams played a key role in the 2-1 goal as he played an excellent through ball to Moore who latched onto it on the left and pulled it back for Potts to provide a good finish from close range.

But Bristol levelled heart-breakingly when Brownhill's header from a left-wing cross looped over Davies and went it. Potts blazed over a half-chance to win it late on and Barnsley set an unwanted club record.
