BARNSLEY Council will have lost half its workforce in five years once a further 430 jobs go under the latest raft of budget cuts in April.

Coun Steve Houghton said over the last five years the council's workforce had plummeted due to the cuts and hundreds more jobs are to go as the council reins-in the purse strings on every department in order to make the savings.

The council has already cut £60m over the past four years and by 2017 it will have had to save a further £28m.

The severity of the cuts will soon impact on services across all areas, from children's services, council tax benefit, welfare rights, financial services and human resources.
