WOMBWELL hairdresser 911 is the latest business to be targeted by burglars.

The shop on Barnsley Road was broken into early on Friday morning - with thieves getting in through the roof after removing some slates.

The safe, which contained Easter raffle money and the float, was removed, even though it had been set in concrete and fastened to the wall.

Linda Hampton, 58, from 911, felt that the security at the salon was tight as they had not previously been targeted.

They have since rallied to improve to ensure there is no repeat.

She said: "We have an armoured plating door at the back, shutters on the front, an alarm and cameras but they avoided them."We have tightened up some more over the weekend which has been a big inconvenience for us.

"We thought we were perhaps one of the most secure buildings in Wombwell but that was clearly not the case."

Slates were removed from the roof ahead of the break-in.

"My first thought was that someone had hidden in the toilets when we locked up but they have got in through the roof," added Linda

Charity shops have also been hit hard, with the Well Wish Society, Bluebell Wood, Barnsley Animal Rescue and Age UK all having to pay for costly repairs following break-ins.
