BUSES fitted with police recording equipment will continue to drive on routes in Grimethorpe to catch yobs in the act.

Youngsters have been blamed for throwing objects including stones and eggs at vehicles along Brierley Road and Cemetery Road, which led users to complain to police at the village’s crime and safety group meeting, held at The Acorn Centre, before Christmas.

Royston-based police placed outward-facing cameras onto a bus, which also had PCSOs onboard, but failed to catch anyone engaging in antisocial behaviour before the festive period.

But more services will be put on in a bid to stop the youths, according to local PCSOs, to provide reassurance to locals.

Acting Sergeant Darrell Needham said: “Typically no incidents occurred on the trial run but we will be doing more now that early nights are here. We stayed on the route for several hours between 6pm and 9pm but witnessed no antisocial behaviour.”
