HIGHWAY improvements which will see the complete removal of Cundy Cross roundabout are due to begin on Monday with businesses braced for months of disruption.

The roundabout is one of the borough’s busiest bottlenecks and it will be replaced by traffic lights as part of a plan following the approval of a new 192-home estate on the site of the nearby former Priory School.

The work will involve replacement of the roundabout with a signal controlled junction, alterations to Rotherham Road including a new signal controlled junction to Meadow View linking to the new Harron Homes housing development and upgrade of the existing junction of Littleworth Lane and Pontefract Road.

Julie Bellis, of Hot ‘n Tasty Cafe, Grange Lane, said she was braced for disruption from now until summer while the work is underway, but is unsure what the long-term effect of the work will be.
