CRIME and antisocial behaviour is ‘out of control’ in the town centre according to several businesses - one of which is considering pulling out of Barnsley for good.

At least 14 windows were smashed in a rampage by vandals at three businesses on Sunday night - The Old Chemist, Moo Designs, and Ashworth and Bird.

“This is the third time this has happened to us in the last three years,” said Moo Designs’ Clare Bottomley.

“It’s getting so bad that we’re honestly thinking about giving Barnsley up as a bad job, it really is that bad.”

The Old Chemist suffered the most damage this week, and it follows an attempted break in at the bar and restaurant the previous week. Around the corner, Irish bar Annie Murray’s was broken into last weekend and about £1,500 was stolen, and on Saturday vintage clothing business Grim North based at The Emporium on Peel Street had half its stock stolen. Ashworth and Bird was also the victim of thieves two weeks ago.
