A BUSINESSMAN wanting to invest £15m into a new business park that could bring 1,500 jobs to the area has asked Barnsley Council to re-consider its initial reject of the proposals.

Yorkshire Land, run by Stephen Green, is in talks with the Ministry of Defence to buy the old petrol storage depot at Oxspring for the project but an initial approach to Barnsley Council has been rebuffed for a catalogue of reasons.

Instead, Barnsley Council is pressing ahead with its own plans to free up development land for new jobs elsewhere in the borough.

That plan is out for consultation over the summer but if approved would involve stripping 400 hectares out of the existing green belt to provide land for jobs.
