ONE of Barnsley's busiest roads was closed and trains on the main rail line into Sheffield were delayed as police dealt with a man believed to have been threatening to jump from a bridge.

Officers received received reports that a man was acting suspiciously on Harborough Hill Road at around 8pm on Monday.

The road was closed from the Alhambra roundabout to the slip road onto Pontefract Road.

Network Rail was also informed of an ongoing incident and trains were stopped from travelling on the line below.

Police spoke to the man for around 45 minutes before convincing him to climb back to safety. He was detained by police on suspicion of causing public nuisance.
