THERE are many reasons why people decide to embark on a new business but for Yvette Lawlor the decision to launch the new Corner Cafe and Pantry in Barnsley town centre was because she just loved meeting people.

Yvette, 45, had owned and run a successful dog grooming business for many years. But when her husband Stephen spotted a notice to say the former Connie's Corner cafe close to Barnsley College was for sale, Yvette knew what she wanted to do.

"I loved grooming dogs and many of my customers were really upset when I said I was stopping, but I really missed working with and meeting people," she said.

"I worked as a waitress more than 20 years ago and I really enjoyed that. I'm a people person so a business where I can produce good food for lots of different people and get to interact with them is perfect for me."

Yvette has already installed a pizza oven into her pantry and says as well as all the usual breakfasts, sandwiches, toasties and paninis, she will also sell pizza, burgers and chicken burgers, baked potatoes and other hot snacks/lunches.

"We have only been open a few weeks, but I am very proud we have just been given a five star health and safety rating," she said. "I'm looking forward to getting to know more and more customers."
