A PAIR of robbers who targeted a man with learning difficulties in Athersley North have been jailed.

Neil Bamford and Terri Hodson, both from North Royds Wood, Athersley North, pleaded guilty to robbery at Sheffield Crown Court on Monday.

In October a 45-year-old man with learning difficulties was walking home after withdrawing some money from the Post Office in Athersley North when he was approached by the pair.

They threatened and assaulted him before stealing his wallet.

Bamford, 41, was jailed for three years, eight months, while Hodson, 31, received a sentence of three years and four months.

Investigating officer Det Con Rob Webster said: “Bamford and Hodson deliberately targeted the man, due to his vulnerabilities. They selfishly and callously took advantage of that, subjecting him to an ordeal which left him incredibly shaken and scared.

“Not only that, but the incident left the victim’s family incredibly upset as well. I am pleased that they both admitted their guilt and the man was not forced to give evidence in court, something he was worried about.

“Everyone involved in this case has worked incredibly hard to get it before the courts and I’m pleased that they both have been given time in prison for what they did to him.”
