A CLEAN-UP project in Carlton and Royston which had to be postponed when the ‘Beast from the East’ storm struck last month will take place next week.

Students from Outwood Academy at Carlton were set to pick litter from areas identified as needing action in the villages, but heavy snow scuppered their plans.

Another date has been set and next Friday youngsters working alongside Royston’s Greenspaces Community Group will be deployed to spruce-up hotspot litter areas around the villages.

Areas around the school, on Royston Road, Carlton Cemetery and Cronkhill Lane will be targeted thanks to the success of last year’s action day which also involved the school.

Coun Caroline Makinson said: “We had no choice but to reschedule the tidy-up day, which was meant to be for the nationwide Great British Spring Clean day of action.

“Anyone wishing to get involved is welcome to do so. We will be meeting outside the school from 10am until noon.”
