A WOMAN who was diagnosed with breast cancer has opened a new wellness room in Elsecar.

Lorraine Wheat, 53, has opened Lorraine’s Mindful and Wellbeing Room in the Rejuven8 Clinic at Elsecar Heritage Centre and offers complementary therapies such as relaxing massages, aromatherapy reflexology, Hopi candles and colour therapy.

Lorraine had been a teacher trainer in various things such as management and customer service before she had breast cancer in 2014.

She decided to retrain as a complementary therapist.

She said: “My world turned upside down. But I’ve been through the fight, I’m still fighting, I’ve not yet been given the all clear but it’s about trying to stay positive.

“I think once you’ve had cancer, you got through all different treatments and you look at life and appreciate life differently.

“I didn’t want to go back into that 100mph routine, I didn’t really know what I wanted. But then a college came up offering complementary therapy training and it took off.”

Lorraine, who also offers therapies at her home in Auckley in Doncaster, opened the room about two weeks ago and said business had been steady.
