A care home worker is gearing up for a triathlon on Wednesday to raise money so she can go and help children in Vietnam.

Gemma Linney, 26, of Lilac Crescent, Hoyland, wants to join the six-week programme run by Global Volunteer Network - supported by Bill Gates - next August.

She would be helping children in orphanages, disability centres and street shelters.

Her triathlon consists of a 25k bike ride, 10k run and 1.5k swim starting from Worsbrough Mill, going to Elsecar, then Locke Park and finishing with the swim at the Metrodome.

Gemma, who works in Highgrove care home, Stairfoot, is also planning a Hallowe'en charity ball on October 26 at Mitchell and Darfield Social Club, Wombwell.

It will be a ticket event costing £3 for children and adults, with disco, raffle and buffet. Raffle donations are from Asda, Morrison's, and Yorkshire Wildlife Park.

Also, 25 per cent of funds raised will be donated to Sheffield Children's Hospital.
