BARNSLEY Council’s ruling cabinet members approved a £7m recovery plan to aid care homes which have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

All care providers are set to receive a share of £3.1m to cover additional costs such as PPE, while a further £2.3m has been pledged to help reduce the rate of transmission in and between care homes.

Barnsley care homes support more than 1,800 residents across 72 venues, with a large number of the homes being occupied by elderly residents who are classed as vulnerable to Covid-19.
