Cauley Woodrow insists he does not mind who finishes as Barnsley’s top-scorer between him and Kieffer Moore as long as the season ends in promotion.

Woodrow netted his 18th of the campaign in the 3-0 win at Plymouth Argyle on Monday, drawing him level in all competitions with Moore who has 16 in the league compared to Woodrow’s 15. Both strikers have started fewer than 30 of the Reds’ 44 league games due to long injury lay-offs, with Woodrow missing the first three months then Moore sitting out 11 games with what was initially called a season-ending head injury before returning for the last two matches.

Woodrow said: “I don’t know if there is any competition between the two of us. We’re just focusing on the wins and, if I score or Kieffer scores, it doesn’t really matter. The other lads are chipping in as well because the strikers won’t score in every game.

“I was definitely surprised that Kieffer came back, we thought he was out for the season. He’s worked really really hard to get himself back fit and he has seen loads of specialists. We’re all delighted and it’s a massive boost for us to have him back in the squad and among the lads again.

“It’s great to have him back for us and the fans. When he came on on Friday, I haven’t heard the fans so loud in all the time I have been at the club.”

Woodrow is hoping Barnsley can finish in the top two and secure automatic promotion. He said: “We know we have a fantastic opportunity to get promoted to the Championship and we don’t want it to pass us by.  We’ve been fantastic all season and don’t want to let it slip in the last few weeks. Since we lost at Burton we have upped the performance in training and in games.”

Woodrow has also not ruled out catching leaders Luton Town – the club where he began his career – and winning the title. He said: "I spoke to the people there when we played them. They are doing really well. We are just behind them and we would like that top spot. Anything can happen in the last few games so we will see.”
