Barnsley College students raised money for a cause close to their hearts while completing research for their studies.

Health and social care students Molly Rushforth and Olivia Newton raised money for the British Heart Foundation's Ramp up the Red Day by selling cakes and buns.

Molly, 17, said: “My granddad suffered from a heart attack which is why I wanted to raise money for a cause close to my heart.

“It was a real eye-opener researching the charity and finding out how many people are affected by heart conditions.”

They also carried out research on the work that the British Heart Foundation does, involving fellow students in creating a display which they linked to their course.

Course leader Mark Greveson added: “The girls have really grasped the concept of Health and Social Care and have linked it to a worthwhile cause.”
