Dimitri Cavare is set to make his 50th appearance for Barnsley tonight in their local derby at Doncaster Rovers.

The 24-year-old French right-back has started all but one of the Reds’ 37 League One matches so far this season, after starting just seven in his first campaign with the club he joined in 2017.

He said: “I am very happy to be near 50 games. I had a big injury before I came here and the first season was not easy but now I am playing every game and I am very happy.”

Cavare admits he lacks consistency, saying: “In some games I am good and some games I am average.”

He is hoping to have more good games than bad towards the end of what he hopes will be a promotion campaign for the second-placed Reds.

“We are confident going into every game because we know we are very good. In my head, I am thinking that we need to win every game and, if we do that, we will stay in the top two.”

Cavare admits the squad was hit hard by the news that Cameron McGeehan had been given a three-match ban for an alleged stamp at Southend last week and would join the sent-off Jacob Brown on the sidelines.

“Everyone was sad because Cam and Browny are good players but, in this squad, everyone is good.  “We have a big group and everyone has a lot of quality. Players like Greeny (Jordan Green) and Mike (Bahre) can come in and do the same job.”
