Dimitri Cavare says he accepts head coach Daniel Stendel’s decision to drop him for the last four games and denies rumours of a falling out between the two of them.

The 24-year-old right-back played 40 of the first 41 league games this season but, after the 3-1 loss at Burton Albion on April 6, he was dropped in favour of 19-year-old Jordan Williams as the Reds secured promotion back to the Championship.

Cavare has not been included in the last two matchday squads but is not injured and was in training yesterday.  He told the Chronicle: “You know, in football sometimes you are in and sometimes you are not.  After the Burton game, I talked with the gaffer.

“He was very honest with me.  He decided to play Jordan and Jordan did well. It is OK.   have no problem with the gaffer.  We haven’t had any problems.  I am working hard in training to be involved in the last game at Bristol Rovers so we can all celebrate promotion with the fans.”

Cavare’s two-year contract is due to expire at the end of this season but he hopes that the club will take up their option of extending it for a further year.  He said: “I hope that they will take that option. I need to talk with the club after the season ends.  I have had a good season and I want to play in the Championship with Barnsley next season.”
