PEOPLE from all walks of life are expected this afternoon to join in a celebration of the life of Lord Mason.

The service at 2pm will be at Barnsley's civic church, St Mary's, and will include a commemorative tribute by Dan Jarvis MP.

Lord Mason, who was the first Barnsley MP to achieve senior government office, died in April, a day after his 91st birthday.Political leaders from all parties paid tribute to his remarkable career and dedication to his home town.

Roy Mason rose through the ranks - going from being a Barnsley pit lad to being a peer of the realm but he never moved from the town he loved.
