A PUB which is said to be Barnsley’s most haunted was visited by a ghost-hunting team this week led by Sheffield’s former boxing world champion Kell Brook.

The Manx Arms, on Sheffield Road, responded to an advert from Team Brook Ghostbusters, a group run by the 32-year-old boxer’s uncle, Roy Brook.

Roy told the Chronicle: “It’s Barnsley’s most haunted pub we’ve heard stories from its landlady and regulars who have told us a lot about old pennies being left on the bar, as if someone from the past is wanting to pay for a drink, as well as drinks going missing.

“We brought equipment with us to gauge the electro-magnetic waves inside the pub and the readings went off the scale.”

The group, which also included paranormal investigator Phil Sinclair, said some members felt a touch while others saw several old pennies drop from the ceiling.

Kell, who won the IBF welterweight strap by defeating Shawn Porter in California in August 2014, is rebuilding his career after back-to-back defeats at the hands of Gennady Golovkin and Errol Spence Jr.

Roy added: “Kell’s always been interested in our ghost-hunting events and he was shook up by what we uncovered at The Manx Arms.

“He’s keen to come and was especially so when I told him it was Barnsley’s most haunted.”
